Godalming war damals eine kleine Stadt mit einer langen Geschichte der Wollproduktion. William entdeckte einige Strickmaschinen in einem alten Lagerhaus hinter dem Gesch\u00e4ft, brachte sich selbst und anderen das Stricken bei und begann mit der Herstellung von Strickwaren, wobei er wohl die ersten Pullover aus Zopfstrick entwickelte.<\/p>\n<p>Bis 1920 hatte sich das Unternehmen auf die Belieferung von Fachgesch\u00e4ften ausgedehnt &#8211; haupts\u00e4chlich durch die Erg\u00e4nzung eines einfachen Zopfpullovers mit dem Club Colour Trim. Das Musterbuch enthielt f\u00fcr jeden Kunden eine kleine Stahlwolle, mit der er einen Pullover in den gew\u00fcnschten Vereins-, Schul- oder Regimentsfarben anfertigen konnte.<\/p>\n<p>Kabelpullis wurden zu dieser Zeit immer beliebter. In diesem Jahrzehnt bestellte der ber\u00fchmteste inoffizielle G\u00f6nner von Alan Paine, der Prinz von Wales (sp\u00e4ter Edward VIII. genannt), seine eigenen personalisierten Pullover in seinen Regimentsfarben.<\/p>\n<p>Bis 1940 hatte sich Paines einen so guten Ruf f\u00fcr die Qualit\u00e4t seiner Handwerkskunst erworben, dass das Unternehmen mit der Herstellung von Wolltrikots f\u00fcr die britischen Streitkr\u00e4fte, insbesondere die Marine, beauftragt wurde. Bis 1942 wuchs die Belegschaft von Alan Paine auf 400 Mitarbeiter in Godalming und 200 in Wales an.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8220;stretch_row&#8220; css=&#8220;.vc_custom_1511177893404{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8220;][vc_column offset=&#8220;vc_col-md-6&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1950 \u00fcbernahm Alan, Williams Sohn, Paine of Godalming und \u00e4nderte den Firmennamen in Alan Paine. In den 1950er und 1960er Jahren suchte Alan Paine nach neuen Absatzm\u00f6glichkeiten, erforschte neue Maschinen und schulte seine hochqualifizierten Stricker und Mitarbeiter. Er belebte das Unternehmen neu und leitete eine neue \u00c4ra der Expansion und des Wachstums ein. Dies war auch der Beginn der Expansion in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika.<\/p>\n<p>1970 wurde das Unternehmen mit dem zweiten Queen&#8217;s Award for Outstanding Export Achievement ausgezeichnet. 1973 wurde Alan Paine von der Worshipful Company of Woolmen gebeten, zwei Vikunjapullover als Hochzeitsgeschenk f\u00fcr Prinzessin Anne (Tochter von K\u00f6nigin Elisabeth II. und Prinz Philip) und Captain Mark Philips zu stricken.<\/p>\n<p>Alans \u00e4ltester Sohn Richard wurde 1976 zum Generaldirektor ernannt. Sein j\u00fcngster Sohn Nigel spielte bis zu seinem Ruhestand im Jahr 2010 eine Schl\u00fcsselrolle bei der Entwicklung des nordamerikanischen Marktes.<\/p>\n<p>In den 1990er Jahren hatte das Unternehmen mehrere Eigent\u00fcmer, bevor es 2006 von James Hinton, dem heutigen Eigent\u00fcmer, gekauft wurde. James Hinton trat 1986 als Vertriebsmitarbeiter in das Unternehmen ein und arbeitete sich im Laufe der Jahre bis zum Vertriebsleiter und 2003 zum Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer hoch.
